Strategy and Innovation

Converting Low Value Feedstocks into High Value Sustainable Products

The core strategy of EcoCeres is compatible with our universal need for a sustainable future – converting low value waste-based feedstocks into high value sustainable fuels, chemicals and materials through proprietary technologies. Our solutions turn 100% waste-based biomass into biofuels and
biopolymers resulting in over 90% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

EcoCeres distincts ourselves as the company in the world capable of producing the full spectrum of advanced biofuels from waste, namely, HVO for diesel, SAF for jet fuel and cellulosic ethanol for gasoline.

Biofuels from Biowaste

We aim to be a market leader in advanced biofuels production, including Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils (HVO), a renewable substitute to diesel, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), a renewable substitute to jet-fuel, and cellulosic ethanol (CE), a renewable blend-substitute to gasoline. We expect to benefit from the substantial growth in the global demand of renewable fuels, sustainable aviation fuel in particular, driven by strong government mandates as part of the net zero commitments made by countries around the world.

More Innovation in Progress

In addition to our established industrial scale commercial operations that produce HVO and SAF, our capability of producing Cellulosic Ethanol has opened the door for cellulosic sugars as the precursor for future biopolymers and other renewable chemicals and materials. We also have patented technology in biomass gasification to turn biomass waste into syngas which is in a form of biogas for more advanced possibilities ahead.

Solutions for Today and Tomorrow

Technological innovation is at the heart of our strategy and operations. Our strong in-house R&D team has developed proprietary and differentiated technologies that are tailor-made for 100% waste-based feedstock. These are designed to reduce GHG emissions. This enables us to build a rich product pipeline and bring decarbonisation solutions to our customers, presenting strong growth drivers that empower us to deliver tangible value and robust returns.

These operations and assets form an advanced biorefinery platform that not only brings decarbonisation solutions much needed by the world but is highly attractive today for those investing in the future for clean energy and sustainability.

Advanced Biofuels: Hydrotreated Vegetable Oils (HVO)

As a second-generation biofuel, EcoCeres’ HVO is a 100% renewable drop-in fuel produced by deoxygenating waste vegetable oils and animal fats and satisfies EN15940 standards with excellent cold flow properties. HVO can also be upgraded through our proprietary technologies to become SAF.

With a chemical composition that is quite similar to that of fossil diesel fuel, HVO can be used as a drop-in renewable fuel in existing diesel engine vehicles. Through comprehensive processing, waste greases are converted into HVO, which can reduce carbon emission by more than 80% compared with traditional diesel oil. HVO is crucial for meeting targets for renewable fuels in road transport in Europe, for instance, where the growing demand and a shortage of supply are presenting great opportunities for business.

Jiangsu Facility

EcoCeres manufactures green and renewable HVO using patented technology at a facility located in Jiangsu Province, China, which has a capacity for producing 300,000 tonnes of HVO/SAF a year. Both our HVO products and facilities have International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC), which enables the sale of these products to Europe.

Furthermore, a new HVO/SAF facility with a design capacity of 350,000 tonnes a year is under construction in Malaysia.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Advanced Biofuels: Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)

SAF is a jet fuel substitute produced from sustainable feedstock for the purpose of reducing lifecycle GHG emissions. It can be safely blended with conventional jet fuel. SAF can be produced by processing and upgrading HVO through isomerisation.

SAF is taken by the global aviation industry as the key to achieving breakthroughs in carbon emission reduction. It can reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 75-90%, depending on the feedstock composition.

EcoCeres’ Jiangsu facility is the world’s first ISCC-CORSIA Plus approved SAF processing facility which fulfils all ISCC sustainability requirements of ecological and social criteria.

SAF as a Key Solution for Decarbonising Air Transport

In order to meet the EU’s climate objectives, it is expected that by 2050 at least 70% of all aviation fuel used for flights departing from EU airports will be SAF, underscoring increased demand and huge growth potential for the product.

Advanced Biofuels: Cellulosic Ethanol

With proprietary technology, EcoCeres is able to decompose agricultural waste, such as the inedible portion of harvested crops, into its basic components of sugar and other materials, which then become the precursors for the production of renewable products such as Cellulosic Ethanol, a renewable fuel that is in high demand in European markets. Cellulosic Ethanol produced by EcoCeres can reduce GHG emissions by 80-90%.

EcoCeres’ production facilities for Cellulosic Ethanol in Hebei Province, China, are certified under the Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) and the ISCC.
